Roofing in Sarasota: what to know
Which office issues your roof permit depends on the address. Inside Sarasota city limits, it's the City of Sarasota's Building & Permitting office, which lists roofing among the single-trade permits that can qualify as over-the-counter. Outside city limits, it's Sarasota County's Building Division. The city also requires state-certified contractors to register with it before working there.
Hurricane Milton made landfall on Siesta Key in Sarasota County in October 2024. If your roof came through that storm and has never been looked at closely, an inspection is a good place to start.

On a sound asphalt shingle roof that is aging, ask about Roof Shield Rejuvenation. We evaluate first and tell you if a re-roof is the smarter spend. For a ballpark on replacement, try the Instant Roof Cost Estimate.
Before you hire anyone
A few checks that take five minutes
- Look up the roofer's license on the Florida DBPR license search. FarFan's roofing license is CCC1330892.
- Ask whose name will be on the permit. It should be the licensed contractor doing the work.
- Get the scope in writing: tear-off or overlay, underlayment, decking repair, flashing, and cleanup.
- Be careful with door-to-door roofing offers after a storm. Take a name and a license number, then check them yourself.
